Il progetto di ricerca si è orientato alla produzione di linee guida progettuali per la rigenerazione architettonica e urbana del Villaggio Olimpico di Roma. Le principali fasi della ricerca sono consistite nella raccolta storico-documentaria sul quartiere, l'analisi ed il ridisegno dello stato attuale, la produzione delle linee guida di una metodologia di intervento. Le particolari questioni architettoniche e urbane che interessano il Villaggio Olimpico hanno fatto sì che questo progetto di ricerca abbia tratto utili indicazioni dalle esperienze legate alla trasformazione dei complessi di edilizia pubblica e dal più generale ambito della trasformazione urbana. Trattandosi dell'ipotesi di intervento su un comparto urbano omogeneo, di alta qualità architettonica, si è previsto che la trasformazione dovesse essere prevalentemente incentrata sugli spazi interstiziali, sui margini delle infrastrutture che attraversano il quartiere, lasciando agli edifici e agli spazi aperti progettati una debita "fascia di rispetto".

The research project was oriented towards the production of design guidelines for the architectural and urban regeneration of the Olympic Village in Rome. The main phases of the research consisted in the historical-documentary collection on the district, the analysis and redesign of the current state, and the production of guidelines for an intervention methodology. The particular architectural and urban issues affecting the Olympic Village meant that this research project took useful indications from experiences related to the transformation of public housing complexes and also from the more general sphere of urban transformation. Since the hypothesis of an intervention on a homogeneous urban area, of high architectural quality, it was foreseen that the transformation should be mainly focused on the interstitial spaces, on the edges of the infrastructures that cross the district, leaving the planned buildings and open spaces a necessary "buffer zone".
